Katy Perry says 'unconditional love' from Orlando Bloom 'saved' her during depressive period

Katy Perry has spoken about how her relationship with Orlando Bloom “saved” her during a period of depression in 2017.

Speaking to The Sunday Times Style, the musician explained how she was on medication for her depression at the time.

“I was on something that my psychologist at the time recommended. It was like I sprained my brain and I needed crutches,” she said.

“It changes the chemistry of your mind, all the serotonin and dopamine. Sometimes people need a pharmaceutical crutch.”

Perry added that she is not on medication now but is in therapy and regularly practices mediation.

“You know that voice in your brain that says, ‘You’re fat, you’re ugly, you just got lucky,’ all that s***? It silences it,” she said of the various treatment methods she uses.

“Which is great because mine was super-loud.”

When asked about her brief breakup with Bloom in 2017, Perry replied: “You are never going to change someone as much as you want to change them.

“They have to make the choice to change themselves, and I had to make the choice, after hitting rock bottom.

“I had no choice but to go on this emotional, spiritual, psychological journey or I probably wouldn’t live to see 2018.”

The singer went on to say that whenever she talks about this, it will be misinterpreted as her saying she was “saved by Orlando Bloom”.

“And I’m, like, ‘Well, I didn’t say that, but thank you for that archaic headline.’ But love did save me. Unconditional love saved me.”
